Closing Costs
A few examples...

Also known as "settlement costs" these are the fees incurred by the lenders, attorney, appraiser, surveryor, etc. in processing the sale of the home. Your actual costs will vary depending upon many factors unique to your particular home purchase. In the following list, you will find a sampling of what you may expect in your costs on closing day:

Loan Origination Fee / Appraisal / Notary Fees / Title Examination
Document Preparation / Survey / Prepaid Items / Mortgage Insurance Premium Loan Discount Points / Credit Report Title Search / Title Insurance
Recording Fees / Insurance

Ask your agent to explain the meaning and purpose of each of these fees.

As a general rule, your closing costs can be easily estimated at approximately 2-3% of the total cost of the home. At closing, you will also be required to present your down payment, which is generally 5% to 20% of the sale price of the home, depending on the type of financing you have chosen.
